The amniotic sac is an environment for the fetus to absorb nutrition, keep the body temperature and protect the baby from outside influences. If the amniotic sac breaks before 37 weeks of pregnancy for some reason, this is called premature rupture of the amniotic fluid.

A greater concern is premature rupture of membranes, or PPROM (Preterm premature rupture of membranes), known as a rupture of the membranes that occurs before 37 weeks of pregnancy.

Is ruptured amniotic fluid common?

Should I be worried?

The main consequence of premature rupture of membranes often causes pregnant women to give birth prematurely , negatively affecting their baby's health. Other risks include infection of amniotic fluid and prolapse or compression of the umbilical cord if the baby's head is not yet reaching.

How to take care of pregnant mothers from premature rupture of membranes and leakage of amniotic fluid

Pregnant women need to be well cared for during pregnancy, provide adequate nutrition and not smoke to reduce the risk of rupture of membranes. If the amniotic sac bursts after 37 weeks of pregnancy, your doctor will induce labor within 24 hours or more. If your amniotic sac ruptures before 37 weeks of pregnancy, you are at great risk of having a preterm birth.

The doctor will appoint pregnant mothers to rest at the hospital and take antibiotics to prevent infections as well as use steroids to stimulate the baby's lungs to develop as quickly as possible to prepare for early delivery.
