Skin resistance - A special mechanism of the immune system that helps to protect the body

Skin resistance is an important component of the immune system, is the first shield to help protect the body against attack by harmful agents. However, most of the Vietnamese people still do not fully understand the working mechanism of this special "armor" layer.

Skin is the first place in contact with harmful agents such as environmental pollution, dust, chemicals ... Not only that, this is also the ideal shelter for a powerful army of bacteria. In order to prevent these harmful bacteria from entering the body, our skin has been equipped with a continuously active "machine" called skin resistance , understood as the natural resistance function of skin in the immune system.

Skin Resistance - Strong armor protects the body from harmful microorganisms

Immunity - resistance is a special defense mechanism of the body against the invasion of harmful agents. The body's immune system is classified into 2 types:

Adaptive immunity: Appears after the body comes in contact with microorganisms. When the body is attacked by microorganisms, the immune system "memorizes" and produces antibodies to quickly and forcefully counter their attack.

Innate immunity: Consists of immune cells, structural components and substances readily available in the fluid, ready to fight pathogens immediately when they attack. In which, the skin is the outermost structural organ, occupying the largest area of the body, so the skin is known as the first "armor" layer of the innate immune system. In addition, the skin also acts as a link between the innate immune system and the adaptive immune system, helping to activate specific immune mechanisms against pathogens.

Like many other parts of the body, the skin also has a natural resistance, also known as skin resistance, to prevent the invasion of harmful agents and the colonies of bacteria living in the upper layer. skin's skin.

How does skin resistance work to protect the body?

On the surface, you can feel the skin like a soft, durable fabric covering the entire body. However, in fact, hidden behind that softness and smoothness is an extremely solid wall. The skin has a structure of three layers: the epidermis, the dermis, and the dermis. The skin resistance function is present right from the epidermis and is composed of 3 barrier layers:

Physical barrier: Including keratin fibers of keratinocytes closely linked together, helping to resist the corrosion of protein-digesting enzymes secreted by bacteria. In addition, the lipid layer alternating between keratinocytes also helps to prevent the invasion of pathogenic microorganisms.

Chemical barrier: Contains antimicrobial agents such as antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), antimicrobial lipids (AMLs) produced by the sebaceous glands and keratinocytes, which inhibit certain types of bacteria and facilitate Immune cells in the skin work optimally to fight harmful bacteria.

Biological barrier: A microbiome that permanently resides on the skin in a balanced manner. They fight off pathogenic bacteria by activating the immune system and secreting substances to inhibit the settlement and growth of harmful strains of microorganisms.

Any type of bacteria that attacks the body has to contend with the aforementioned three layers of skin resistance. Therefore, strengthening the skin's resistance is the easiest way to protect the body from the risk of disease.

How to maximize the capacity of the skin-resistant "engine"?

Although it is known as the sturdy armor layer that can dislodge millions of harmful bacteria, the skin resistance is also very easily "shaken" so the balance of the microbiota on the skin is fluctuated. The cells that make up the physical barrier and natural antimicrobials are also susceptible to harmful effects such as pollution, chemicals, dirt ... and everyday bad habits like smoking, drinking. wine…. From there, the skin's resistance will be easily damaged.

Once the skin's resistance is reduced, your skin will be very vulnerable to attack by external factors such as dust, chemicals ... Not only that, the "legion" of harmful microorganisms will "take advantage of "This opportunity is to base troops on the skin, then multiply and attack our bodies. This makes us suffer from a number of common diseases such as colds, flu, respiratory infections , diarrhea ... more dangerous can lead to blood infection and the consequences of infections such as inflammation , rheumatism. ….

Therefore, each person needs to pay more attention to their own skin resistance, similar to taking care of the body's resistance. To increase the skin's resistance, there are some tips below:

Build a nutritious diet, eat lots of green vegetables and fruits

Drink enough water

Maintain a healthy lifestyle, do not smoke, drink alcohol, and do not overwork

Exercise regularly and properly

In addition to maintaining a scientific and healthy lifestyle, in order to enhance skin resistance, you should pay attention to proper body hygiene with a suitable skin care product to clean away dirt, overgrowth of pathogenic microorganisms on the skin without damaging the skin's resistance.

More info for you

In addition to maintaining an optimistic lifestyle, in order to enhance skin resistance, we should pay more attention to proper body hygiene with a suitable skin care product to remove dirt, limiting the overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria on the skin without damaging the skin's resistance.
