Wrap towels properly

Wrapping a towel for babies after giving birth helps babies sleep better, less fussy and protects little angels from their own sharp nails that are trusted by mothers around the world. This is true if you know how to wrap the towel properly. On the contrary, if you do it wrong, the baby will get all the consequences.

Unpredictable danger from incorrectly wrapping a towel

Wrap the newborn in the wrong towel, and the baby will get all the consequences

Affects hip development

According to orthopedic experts in North America, UK and Australia, tight bandages can cause children with hip dysplasia. Many studies in the three countries above show that the number of patients suffering from hip bone disease has increased a lot in recent years and that the number of children with tight towels at risk of hip bone disease is 10 times higher.

Experts suggest that even though the infant should be wrapped in a towel, it is necessary to let the baby's limbs freely move. If the child's legs are bent like a frog, it is also very normal and good for the child's hip bones in the future. In the case of tight cuffs, the child may later develop hip disease and must wear a leg brace or surgery to cure it completely.

Risk of sudden death when wrapped too tightly

A study by the University of Bristol (UK) indicates a higher risk of sudden death if the child is wrapped in a napkin in the tilt or back position. The source of wrapping the baby towel when sleeping is mimicking the position of the fetus in the womb to help children get used to the new environment.

Dr. Anna Pease, lead author of the study added: “The focus of this assessment is not on the study of swaddling but on the study of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The risk of SIDS is higher when the baby is sleeping on his or her back in a towel ”.

According to Dr. Pease, co-researcher, the evidence shows that children between the ages of 4-6 months can freely move around while sleeping, so if at this age, they wrap their babies in a towel when sleeping. the risk of sudden death will be higher.

Increased likelihood of pneumonia

Another study by Turkish and Chinese experts also showed that bandages are one of the causes of increasing rates of pneumonia in children. According to the study, 3-month-old babies who were regularly wrapped in a towel were four times more likely to develop pneumonia than other babies.

Although there is not an official cause, but experts believe that towel wrapping can  affect breathing ability , increasing the risk of developing pneumonia. Some other opinions also said that, due to being "pinched" too carefully, the resistance did not have a chance to develop and it was difficult for the baby to resist the attack of viruses.

In addition, wrapping a towel will make the baby's body temperature soar, causing sweat. If not cleaned in time, sweat will seep back into the body, causing the baby to catch a cold.

Wrap towels properly

Release the lower body freely, so that the baby's legs and hips can freely move

Wrap the towel moderately, not too loose or too tight. Being too tight will make your baby uncomfortable, but too loose will easily make the towel pop, increasing the risk of sudden death.

Don't let the towel go too high above the baby's head or neck

When to stop wrapping baby towels?

Wrapping is a worldwide method to  help babies sleep better  and help them feel secure. However, babies are not dependent on towels for too long to get a good night's sleep. By the time the baby is 2 months old, the mother was able to help him remove this protective layer.
