Treat urinary tract infections during pregnancy

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are quite common in women and are common during pregnancy. What is the treatment if I get a UTI during pregnancy? This is probably the question that many mothers are wondering. So let aFamilyToday Health follow up with the following shares to understand more about this situation.

The risk of urinary tract infections in women is about 20%. If treated promptly, the disease will not cause serious complications. However, if left for a long time, it can lead to kidney infection and even death. A urinary tract infection is a bacteria that gets into the urethra and causes an infection. Usually, the bacteria are eliminated through urination but can lead to an infection if:

Have sex

Pregnant

Urethra obstruction

Toxic bacteria

Some women have no symptoms when they have a urinary tract infection, but others experience the following symptoms:

Lower back pain

High fever

Chills

Vomiting

Feeling burning when urinating

Peeing several times.

How do I know if I have a urinary tract infection?

Your doctor will take a sample of your urine to diagnose a urinary tract infection. This urine sample will be tested to see if bacteria are too much in the urine. This is called urine analysis .

How to treat urinary tract infection during pregnancy?

If you get a urinary tract infection during pregnancy, your doctor will safely give you antibiotics to treat the condition. You can use natural methods to prevent or reduce your risk of getting this disease:

1. Cranberry juice: There is some evidence that drinking plain cranberry juice without added sugar can prevent urinary tract infections because this fruit has antibacterial properties. There are currently no studies showing how much juice it takes to prevent the disease. You should not drink this juice if you are taking blood thinners because it can cause bleeding.
2. Drink plenty of water to help dilute urine, easy to eliminate bacteria.
3. Avoid drinks that stimulate your bladder like coffee, alcohol and soft drinks as it can cause you to urinate a lot.
4. Wipe the genital area from front to back: After using the toilet, you should wipe the genital area from front to back to prevent bacteria from the anus spread to the vagina and urethra causing infection.
5. Clean the bladder right after sex: Try to get rid of bacteria that get into your urethra by drinking a full glass of water and urinating right after sex.
6. Avoid using cleaning solutions that cause irritation: Using some hygiene products such as sprays or bleach for the genital area can irritate the urethra and cause infection.

If treated promptly, a urinary tract infection will not cause serious complications. So, if you suspect you have a urinary tract infection, the earlier you should get it treated to avoid dangerous complications.
