Breastfeeding is very good for your baby's development. You can refer to 4 ways to breastfeed your baby for the best source of milk.
There are many positions you and your baby can find while breastfeeding. But the most important thing you need to know is that basic position is to lay your baby on one side and facing your nipple. This is the core posture of other breastfeeding positions. Make sure your baby's entire body is facing you - your belly with his ears, shoulders, and hips in a straight line. To keep the baby's head from turning to the side, you will place the baby's head straight with the baby's body. Imagine how difficult it would be for you to drink and swallow with your head tilted to the side, and your baby finds it just as difficult.
Breastfeeding experts recommend two positions for breastfeeding during the first few weeks: cross hug and ball hold (or tight hug). Once you feel more comfortable, you can add crib holding and lying down. First, let's start with the basic poses.
The traditional breastfeeding position is the way your baby's head is placed on the mother's arm. Sit in a supported chair or in a bed that is covered with pillows. Then place your feet on a chair, coffee table, or other surface that lifts them up to avoid lying on your side.
Hold the baby in your chest (or place a pillow in your lap) with the baby's face facing you. Round arms into a cradle. If your baby is on the right nipple, let him relax on your right arm. Extend forearms and bend down to back to support your baby's neck, spine, and lower body. You should use your knees to limit the child's stirring. Place your baby on a horizontal or slant at a moderate angle.
* Note: This traditional breast-feeding is suitable for young babies. Some mothers think that this position is difficult to direct the child's mouth to the nipple, so it only applies when the baby has stronger neck muscles at about 1 month of age. In the case of women who have a caesarean section, this may make you feel uncomfortable because it will increase the pressure on your abdomen.
This is also known as horizontal hug. This position is different from the cradle, you don't let the baby's head rest on your arm, but instead, your arm has to switch roles. If you're breastfeeding your right breast, use your left arm and arm to keep your baby in place. Rotate your baby's body so his chest and belly are facing you, then use your fingers behind the baby's head and under his ears, pointing his mouth at the nipple.
* Note: This works well for babies and those who have trouble sleeping.
The name also says it all, this is the position where you hold the baby under the arm (the same side that you are taking care of) like a ball or bag. First, you put your baby on the side and under the arm. You should place your baby so that his nose is about the same height as his nipple and his feet are facing the back of your baby.
Have your baby lie relaxed on a pillow, either on your lap or right next to you, adjusting his or her shoulders, neck and head with your hands. But be careful not to push the baby against your chest, the baby may push away. Please support the baby's back with your arm.
* Note: You can use this method if you have a cesarean section (the baby won't lie on your abdomen). If your baby does not lie still, this position helps you to direct your baby's head to the nipple easily. This position is also good for mothers with big breasts or flat nipples, mothers with twins.
This position is a good way to breastfeed when you are breastfeeding in the middle of the night or when you need rest (or rather when you need rest, you will always need to use this position). Lie on one side first with your head resting on the pillow. Place the baby on the side facing you, the belly facing the belly. Make sure the baby's mouth is in line with your nipple. Then, lift the breast with your hand as in other positions. You can add a small pillow behind your baby's back to keep him close to you.
Whichever position you choose, be sure to bring your baby closer to your chest, not vice versa. Many latching problems are often caused by mothers bending their breasts over the baby and trying to push the breast into the baby's mouth. Instead, keep your back straight and bring your baby to your chest.
Caring for a baby is not an easy process, but breastfeeding will bring many unexpected benefits that pregnant mothers do not know. Hope these knowledge will help you breastfeed your baby more easily , as well as your baby will breastfeed as effectively as possible.
