Home remedy for vomiting at home

Vomiting is a very common condition in young children. Correct treatments will help vomiting children restore their health.

The weak digestive system of the baby is the cause of many problems, typically vomiting due to the sudden contraction of the stomach muscles. Vomiting is also very likely to lead to dehydration in a child. The following article will help parents to solve this problem effectively.

Signs when the child is dehydrated

Children become dehydrated faster than adults. Parents need to monitor their children. If your baby is found to be tired, irritable, dry mouth, less tears when crying, cool skin, shrinking eyes, not urinating often and when walking a lot or urine is dark yellow the baby is most likely dehydrated.

Parents need to make sure the vomiting child gets enough fluids and necessary electrolytes, especially if the baby has diarrhea with vomiting. This is necessary to prevent dehydration and to compensate for the loss of water, mineral salts and calories from vomiting. Start giving your baby water even if he feels nauseous. If your child has just finished vomiting, wait 30−60 minutes before giving the baby water to drink and divide into small amounts.

Avoid giving solids for the first 24 hours after vomiting. Instead, parents should give their baby liquid every 5 minutes using a spoon or bottle. If your baby starts to drink a lot, you should gradually increase the amount of fluids your baby drinks. If the baby is breastfed, the mother should continue to breastfeed in combination with more frequent feeding than usual (every 1−2 hour) and divided into several times (every 5−10 minutes).

Bottle-fed babies also need to be fed often. In addition to breastmilk and formula, you can give your vomiting baby some rehydration solution. These rehydration solutions help replace the lost fluids and salts when your baby vomits. Children with diarrhea should avoid juices and soft drinks, as they are high in sugar which can make diarrhea worse. If your child is vomiting but does not have diarrhea, he or she can drink some juice or water.

If your baby is able to drink fluids without vomiting after the first 8 hours, parents should start giving them solid foods again. For young children, you can start with bland foods like apple sauce, mashed bananas or infant cereals. Older children (over 1 year old) can eat crackers, toast, mixed cereals, soups, mashed potatoes or white bread.

Your baby can eat and drink normally about 24 hours after vomiting has stopped. Researchers suggest that ginger is effective in controlling nausea and is safe for children over 2 years of age. However, parents need to consult a doctor when trying to use this method on a child.
