Effective ways to get rid of lice

6–12 million children worldwide get lice each year, and this is also a concern for parents because there are many very harmful and ineffective lice medicines. Here are a range of safe and effective home lice killers for young children.

Relax

First thing first, take a deep breath and don't panic if your child has lice. They may make the head itchy , but are not harmful to health.

You need to use a variety of methods to get rid of not only the lice but also the nits stuck in the hair shaft. Lice eggs can be killed by a number of methods, but nits will not be so easy. The lice have lived and evolved over thousands of years, so getting them eradicated is very difficult.

It's best to get ready and fight it for weeks and months, as they will most likely return.

Use a lice brush

In cases of lice, using a specialized lice brush to get rid of all lice and nits is the simplest and most common method.

In the old days when we wanted to get rid of lice, we used to spend hours stripping each hair strand to find them. But now with the lice brush will help to remove it more quickly without much effort.

Although there are many lice treatment products on the market today, using a lice brush is still considered the best method.

Pyrethrins / Pyrethrum

These are the active ingredients found in most lice-fighting shampoos today. They are extracted from chrysanthemums and are considered natural "insecticides". Pyrethrins / Pyrethrum attacks the nervous system of lice and destroys them. Today, however, lice seem to be resistant to these substances.

The way to use lice shampoo is as follows: Apply the product to dry hair, wait 10 minutes, add water to form lather and rinse. After using it for 7–10 days, you should use an extra lice brush to completely remove all lice. In particular, it is important to monitor for allergic reactions of the body after use because the product can cause irritation to some people, especially children.

Olive oil

Applying olive oil to your hair and keeping them on overnight will help kill lice. Head lice are choked by being spilled into airways. However, it is important to incubate it overnight as lice will survive without breathing for many hours. In addition, olive oil also helps to lubricate the hair, preventing nits from sticking to the hair. To treat root lice, you need to incubate olive oil every night for 21 days.

Hairdryer

Hot air is highly effective at killing lice eggs, but less effective for lice. Using a dryer can destroy about 98% of the eggs and 55% of the lice in the hair. But you should not dry your hair right after using chemical lice-killing products because there are some ingredients that are combustible.

Hair gel or vaseline

Similar to olive oil, hair gel or vaseline will clog the airways of lice. Applying vaseline to your hair is difficult to wash off, while the hair gel will be easier to wash off.

Incubate hair with gel and vaseline overnight, then rinse off the next morning, using a lice comb to remove dead lice. This method should only be used once a week.

Mayonnaise

A delicious side dish sauce in dishes, but will mayonnaise kill lice? Head lice can open and close the breathing holes to prevent choking, so there is no guarantee that mayonnaise will work.

Even so, some people after using this method have experienced a significant reduction in lice. Similar to using hair gel and vaseline, you should also incubate your hair overnight with mayonnaise, wash it off the next morning and repeat once a week.

Dishwashing liquid

Dish soap does not kill lice, but it does help remove olive oil, mayonnaise, hair gel or vaseline that mothers put on children's hair in these methods.

Vinegar

Many believe the vinegar will dissolve the glue that female lice use to attach their eggs to the hairs, but there is no evidence to support this. Usually, white vinegar is recommended to be used straight or diluted with water.

Housecleaning

The environment does not affect a lot of lice, as most lice live only 1–2 days in the hair and cannot fly or jump outside, so you do not need to disinfect the whole house. However, to prevent head lice from returning or spreading to everyone in the family, it is best to regularly disinfect objects that come in direct contact with the scalp of an infected child such as pillows, beds, hats, towels, combs. … You should also vacuum the floors, carpets, and sofas to remove any hairs or hair that contains nits from the house.

Prevent

Regular bathing is not guaranteed to prevent the entry of lice. Therefore, it is best to avoid direct contact, and to prevent lice from crawling from person to person.

Girls should tie their hair neatly or braid, do not let children share combs, brushes, hats, pillows with other children. And you should also add a few drops of tea tree oil to your child's personal belongings to keep away stink bugs.
