Common skin diseases in children

Beautiful skin is a highlight on the body that attracts all eyes and everyone wishes to have smooth skin like "baby skin". However, if you do not take good care of it, your baby's skin will be smooth and problematic. Let's join aFamilyToday Health to learn about common skin diseases in children and how to prevent you.

Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp

Seborrheic dermatitis is manifested by a red area on the baby's scalp. However, this is not a contagious disease. Seborrheic dermatitis is common in infants. Babies get infected in the first few weeks and disappear gradually over a few weeks to months. Seborrheic dermatitis can be uncomfortable or itchy in children, but it is rare.

It is difficult to determine the main cause of this skin disease. However, research shows that the fungus Pityrosporum ovale (a type of yeast) is the main cause of the disease.

In the case of mild seborrheic dermatitis, you can have your child wash her hair more often. You can use a soft toothbrush to get rid of the scales on your child's scalp.

Shampoos (dandruff shampoos that contain sulfur and 2% salicylic acid) may cause the flakes to flake off on their own earlier, but these shampoos can be irritating, and it's best to consult. See a pediatrician or dermatologist before giving it to your child. Complementary drugs like steroids can be used to treat the scabs and redness.

Rubella

Rubella is a viral disease most commonly seen in children aged 6 months to 2 years. It usually appears as a high fever over a few days, followed by a flat rash or rough or pink-red skin surface that appears and spreads over the child's body.

Rubella can be caused by two common viruses such as the Human Herpes virus (HHV) type 6 and type 7. Two viruses belong to the herpes simplex virus (HSV)-like family. However, HHV-6 and HHV-7 do not cause genital herpes sores and infections, but rather like HSV. Rubella is very contagious and spreads through the nasal and throat fluids of an infected person. In cases where the disease has not yet developed into symptoms, the disease often spreads infection.

In most cases, a child with roseola usually begins with a mild respiratory infection followed by a high fever (usually higher than 39 ° C) lasting 3 to 7 days. Your child may feel uncomfortable or irritable during this time. In addition, your baby has anorexia and may swollen glands (lymph nodes) in the neck or back of the head.

In many cases, a child with a high fever suddenly stops and a rash appears on the body at the same time. The roseola is made up of flat or raised reddish spots that spread to the entire body. When you gently press the area with your hand, you will see a light colored area around it. Usually, the rash spreads to the face, legs, arms, and neck.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol®) or ibuprofen (like Advil® or Motrin®) can help reduce fever. You should limit aspirin to children because the use of aspirin in this case is associated with the development of Reye's syndrome leading to liver failure. You can try using a sponge or towel soaked in cold water to help alleviate the discomfort of the rash. You should avoid exposing your child to alcohol, cold water, rubbing alcohol, and cold baths.

In addition, you should encourage your baby to drink fluids such as water, electrolytes for children, soft drinks, these liquids reduce the risk of dehydration.

There is currently no way to stop the spread of roseola. Infections usually affect young children but rarely appear in adults. Therefore, it is thought that exposure to roseola during childhood can prevent children from getting sick again as they grow up. However, not everyone has this luck.

Acute infectious scarlet fever

Acute infectious scarlet fever is a disease caused by Human parvovirus. This is a disease causing many health effects for children. This disease rarely harms the fetus, but the pregnant woman should be monitored in the absence of immunity to the virus.

The viruses that cause acute infectious scarlet fever are transmitted by sneezing or cough secretions. This disease is contagious only before a rash appears. Most children have very few symptoms, if any, except a rash. Symptoms of acute infectious scarlet fever such as influenza and cold symptoms include cough, runny nose, fever, general aches and pain in the joints and muscles, loss of appetite and irritation.

When there is a rash on the child's face, the child's cheeks turn red. The rash is usually painless but will feel hot when the skin is touched.

Rash and swelling

The rash is itchy red bumps on the skin. It can last from a few minutes to a few hours, and may appear and go away on its own within a few days. Possible causes of a rash (allergies):

Foods such as eggs, milk, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, seafood, nuts, and strawberries;

Medical drugs, especially antibiotics;

Insect bites and stings;

Latex.

Sometimes, a rash can appear without any signs. If your child has a rash, he or she may also have a type of swelling called angioedema. It usually occurs in soft skin areas, like those around the child's mouth, eyes and genitals.

Keeping your child in good health is not only about having enough energy for daily activities, but also about having healthy skin or not. Understanding the causes of seborrheic dermatitis, roseola, rash ... and how to prevent these diseases will help you take care of your baby's skin easier.
