Be careful about the cause of food poisoning in children

Children with weak immune systems are very susceptible to food poisoning. Because many parents do not know the cause and timely first aid, they become dehydrated and many other serious problems.

What is food poisoning?

Food poisoning occurs when victims use food or water contaminated by bacteria, toxins (toxins) or chemicals. When it comes to food poisoning, we often think of gastroenteritis, such as an intestinal infection that often causes diarrhea and possibly vomiting. However, sometimes other symptoms, such as nausea and bloating, can arise from eating contaminated food.

Causes of food poisoning can be:

Bacteria

Campylobacter is considered the most common food poisoning bacteria. Other bacteria that can cause food poisoning include Salmonella, Escherichia coli (abbreviated as E. coli), Listeria, Shigella and Clostridium perfringens.

Viruses

Certain viruses, such as norovirus or rotavirus, can contaminate food and cause food poisoning.

Parasites

There is also another common parasite that causes food poisoning, the toxoplasma. This is a parasite that lives in the intestines of some animals, including cats. Food poisoning can occur if food or water is contaminated with the feces of an infected cat. You can also be poisoned if you eat raw or unprocessed meat from another animal that carries the parasite. Toxoplasmosis is called toxoplasmosis. Symptoms of this type of food poisoning include swollen lymph nodes and sometimes a skin rash.

Toxins and chemicals

Toxins produced by bacteria can also cause food poisoning, just like bacteria. For example, the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus can contaminate the ice cream and its toxins can lead to food poisoning. Bacillus cereus bacteria can also cause poisoning. If the user eats the contaminated rice when reheating, the poison can cause food poisoning.

The human body causes food contamination

Contamination of food can occur due to problems with production, storage or processing.

Stitch preservation

When we do not store food properly or do not keep it at the right temperature such as insufficient refrigeration of the food, especially for meat and dairy products.

Processing stage

Cooking foods inappropriately (undercooked or not cooked enough hot) will not kill bacteria. Bacteria are commonly found in raw meat, including poultry. Cooking the food thoroughly will kill the bacteria.

Poisoning by food users who do not follow rules about food hygiene and do not wash their hands properly ;

Contamination from other foods (cross contamination). For example, you don't wash a chopped cutting board and you cut a piece of bread on the same cutting board. You store raw meat in the refrigerator, over cooked food, and drip water from raw meat on the food below. Bacteria can also be found in unpasteurized milk and cheese. Normally the pasteurization process kills the bacteria.

To avoid food poisoning for your child, it is best to make sure you eat it well. Parents should also choose safe processed foods to protect your baby's health!
