9 foods your child should avoid eating

9 foods your child should avoid eating

Children's diet is very different from adults, mainly because the baby's body has not yet developed fully. Here are a few foods to avoid for children:

Salt

Babies should not eat a lot of salt because salt is not good for their kidneys. You should not add salt to your child's diet, and should not use seasoning seeds or sauces to taste baby food because these spices have a high salt content.

The maximum salt intake recommended by experts for infants and children is:

Under 12 months of age - less than 1 g of salt / 1 day (less than 0.4 g sodium);

From 1 to 3 years old - 2 g of salt / day (0.8 g sodium);

From 4 to 6 years old - 3 g of salt / day (1.2g sodium);

From 7 to 10 years old - 5 g of salt / day (2 g sodium);

From 11 years of age and older - 6 g of salt / day (2.4 g sodium).

Breastmilk itself provides just the right amount of salt a newborn baby needs. Infant formula has the same amount of salt as breast milk.

Street

Children don't need too much sugar. The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that you should not give your baby more than 5% of the sugar in the daily diet. By avoiding junk foods and drinks that contain a lot of sugar, you will help your baby prevent dental problems. However, you can use mashed banana, breast milk or formula to sweeten your baby's food when needed.

Honey

Occasionally, honey contains bacteria and can lead to poisoning - this is a very dangerous illness in young children. It's best not to feed your baby honey until you are one year old. In addition, honey contains sugar, so avoiding honey will help your baby prevent dental problems.

Nuts

Nuts, including peanuts, should not be given to children under five years of age, as they can cause suffocation. Only if your family has no history of nut allergies can you feed your baby peanuts when your baby is six years old by crushing or mixing them in butter for your baby to enjoy.

Low-fat foods

Fat is an important source of calories and vitamins for babies and children. It is recommended that babies and children under the age of two be given higher-fat milk, yogurt and cheese instead of low-fat foods.

Saturated fat

You do not overeat foods high in saturated fat and harmful fats, such as potato chips, hamburgers and cakes. Saturated fats may increase your child's risk of heart disease later in life.

Shark meat, swordfish and maclin fish

You should not feed your baby shark, swordfish and marlin because the mercury content in these fish will affect the development of the child's nervous system.

Raw shellfish

Seafood meat can cause food poisoning for your child, so it's best not to feed them raw shellfish.

Raw eggs and peach eggs

Raw eggs and scrambled eggs can contain bacteria that are harmful to your baby's health. Children over six months old can eat eggs, but make sure they're cooked with both the whites and the yolks.

If you still have any concerns about your baby's diet, consult your doctor and dietitian for advice and help promptly.
