5 sugar replacement therapies for diet babies mothers should know

How can baby lose weight but not completely abstain from sweets? That is the constant question of mothers whose children are overweight. aFamilyToday Health would like to introduce to mothers the list of popular "artificial" and "natural" sweeteners that you should consider using for your baby if you want to avoid overeating your baby.

Sucralose (trade name: Splenda)

This substance is often added to packaged foods and beverages. Sucralose is heat resistant, can be used for baking.

The compound above is formed by combining sucrose (cane sugar) with three chlorine molecules. The body will not digest or absorb calories from sucralose.

Sweetness: 600 times more than sugar.

Taste tasting: tasters found Splenda to deliver a mild sweetness in hot and cold teas, but some reports suggest that it gives a rather unpleasant metallic aftertaste. Biscuits made from Splenda have a good reputation for sweetness but poor in texture, shape and flavor. However, the Splenda in the cake blended with a 50/50 sugar and sucralose ratio, is better rated in all respects.

Aspartame (trade names: NutraSweet, Equal)

This is a substance commonly added to packaged foods and beverages.

This compound is made by combining two amino acids, phenylalanine and aspartic acid, with a methyl ester that becomes methanol, a byproduct of carbohydrate fermentation. The US Food and Drug Administration FDA approved aspartame in 1981. The body can digest this chemical, but because it is only used in small amounts to sweeten foods, its energy is negligible. .

Sweetness: 180 times more sweet than sugar.

Note: people with a rare condition called “phenylketoneuria (PKU)” cannot digest phenylalanine, so it can accumulate to toxic levels. Therefore, people with PKU must avoid all foods containing phenylalanine, including aspartame.

Taste: some experts have found aspartame moderately sweet in hot and cold tea. While others feel too sweet or artificially sweet. Most people experience a bitter aftertaste.

Saccharin (commercial name: Sweet'N Low, Sweet Twin)

Saccharin is often added to packaged foods and beverages

This is a compound containing sulfur and nitrogen without providing calories to the body.

Sweetness: 300 times more than sugar

Note: after being first discovered in 1879, Saccharin has a long and controversial history. The FDA re-approved the limited use of saccharin as a food additive (in beverages and some processed foods) in 2000.

Taste taste: most people comment that saccharin has an "artificial" taste in hot and cold tea and has a bitter taste.

 Xylitol (trade name: XyloSweet)

Xylitol is heat resistant, can be used for baking.

Classified as sugar alcohol, the chemical structure of xylitol is similar to that of sugar and alcohol, but not either.

Sweetness: similar to sugar.

Note: the body does not completely absorb xylitol. If you are trying to control your child's sugar levels, do not give them foods containing xylitol without bluff. The American Diabetes Association recommends consuming only half a gram of low energy sugar (sugar alcohol). Research shows that xylitol, often added to chewing gum and mint, can help reduce tooth decay by reducing acidity in the mouth. Xylitol is also very toxic to dogs.

Taste test: experts consider this to be an acceptable sweetness with only a few mild aftertaste, but not unpleasant in hot and cold tea. The substance in the biscuits tastes good but most of the descriptions suggest that the cake's appearance and texture are unattractive and too soft.

Erythritol (trade names: ZSweet, Sun Crystal)

Erythritol is often added to packaged foods and beverages.

This substance is heat resistant, can be used for baking.

It is found in melons and pears. Erythritol is a low energy sugar. Erythritol is completely absorbed by the body (unlike xylitol) but not metabolized, so erythritol (almost) does not provide calories and does not produce a glycemic response.

Sweetness: 60-80% as sweet as sugar.

Note: Since erythritol can be absorbed by the body, erythritol is less likely to cause stomach failure than xylitol. Erythritol combines with cane sugar to form a product that contains 4 calories per teaspoon and slightly increases blood sugar.

Taste for taste: in hot and cold tea, erythritol gives a great sweetness, but baked cookies don't have the expected texture and shape.

Above is an introduction to some widely used natural and artificial sweeteners. You can refer and choose the right type for your baby's taste and location to help your child limit sugar absorption while maintaining his sweet taste. Good luck!
