Behavior and development

How does the baby develop?

This month, your baby should be able to sit steadily. Children can walk while holding on to objects, even let go of a few steps for a few moments and stand upright without support from others. In addition, in a standing position, the baby can also try to bend over and pick up a toy from the floor.

If your baby can't walk yet, don't worry. Most babies begin to take their first steps around 12 months of age. Some can walk early, others only begin to walk until they reach 18 months of age.

By week 42, your baby may be able to:

Get up yourself from a lying position;

Knowing clapping and / or waving goodbye;

Pick up tiny objects with fingers (so remember to keep dangerous objects out of baby's reach);

Take a few steps while holding onto the furniture;

Understand what is "no" but not always obey.

What do you need to do to support your baby?

You should avoid giving your baby foods that easily cause choking, such as raw carrots or a whole grape. Foods such as cheese, cooked vegetables and chopped fruit should be offered to your baby.

Health and safety

What should mom discuss with the doctor?

Most doctors won't schedule a routine checkup for your baby this month. However, you can always call your doctor if you have any questions and can't wait for your next visit.

Mother should know more?

One thing you should pay attention to when caring for your baby at this time are insect stings. Sometimes stings that are not dangerous in an adult can be dangerous for children of this age.

What should mom do when the baby is stung by an insect?

Most stings are very uncomfortable, but not life-threatening, unless your child is allergic to insect venom. Follow these steps when your baby is bitten by an insect:

Remove the stinger of the insect sting on the baby's skin with tweezers, don't try to pull it out with your hands;

Sanitize the burned area with soap and water;

Relieve your baby's pain by applying ice to the sting for 15 minutes or using a solution of sodium bicarbonate and water. You should consult your doctor before giving your baby any pain reliever;

Call your doctor right away if your baby has diarrhea, fever, vomiting or if the swelling gets worse after 24 hours. You should also call your doctor if the skin around the sting shows signs of infection, such as redness, pain, or swelling.

What should mom know about anaphylaxis caused by insect bites?

Anaphylaxis usually occurs because the body is hypersensitive to allergens. This can cause decreased blood pressure, itching, swelling, and difficulty breathing. However, anaphylaxis from insect stings is quite rare and only occurs if your child is allergic to the sting. Of course, you won't know this until your baby is stung by an insect, so taking precautions against these situations is essential.

If your child has allergies, he or she will most likely experience the following symptoms:

Have difficulty breathing or start wheezing;

Dizziness, stomach pain and vomiting;

The face is red;

The rash gradually appears;

The baby's tongue, hands and face are swollen;

Your baby can also be in shock if he looks drowsy or sleepy.

If your child is allergic, call 115 right away. You should put your baby down, keep him calm and cover him with a blanket.

How can I prevent my baby from being bitten by an insect?

When you take your baby out, you can use insect repellent and dress your baby in white or light long-sleeved clothing. These colors are less attractive to insects and also make it easier to spot ticks and insects (don't forget to bring your baby socks too). Be careful when feeding your baby outdoors, especially in areas with lots of insects and avoid using fragrant products like lotions or soaps.

Mother's concern

What are the things you need to care about?

At 42 weeks there are many things you can take care of while caring for your baby, one of which is twisting and pulling your baby's hair.

Brushing or pulling hair can be the result of two things: First, your baby wants to feel the same while being breastfed, because at that time he or she often strokes her mother's breasts or cheeks or pulls her hair. Second, babies use hair pulling as a way to relieve pressure, especially when they are too tired or irritable.

Hair-twisting, stroking, or pulling is very common and can last throughout childhood without any negative effects. However, if your baby pulls his hair or pulls his hair too hard and causes the hair to break in large chunks, then obviously you need to stop him. The following tips can help you prevent the above action from happening:

Care and comfort your baby more, especially during times of stress;

Cut your baby's hair short enough that he won't be able to hold it too easily;

Give your baby something else to pull, such as a stuffed animal with long feathers;

When your baby starts pulling or pulling his hair, use something to distract him.

If the tips above still do not work, you should ask for more advice from your doctor to deal with your baby's condition more effectively.
